6-4 Jackets on To Bi-District- Play Devine

The Llano Yellowjackets took care of business Friday night in winning 49-0 over outmatched Eastside Memorial.  The Panthers, with only 15 players suited up, and less numbers in the stands, the game was played.  The Panthers did not win a game in 2019.

Llano finishes the regular season at 6-4, and with a fourth place finish in tough 13 4A Div. 11, the Jackets play the winner of 14 4A, Devine.  Llano has made the State Playoffs 5 years in a row.  Llano has played Devine two previous times, winning both games.  In 1999 Llano beat Devine in Bi-District, and then 8 years later,  playing in the Alamodome, winning the Area Game.  Friday nights’ game will be played at the New Braunfuls Canyon Stadium, starting early at 7 PM.

A few notes on the Eastside game:

Senior Donaven Arrellano scored the Jackets’ first two TDs, a 12 yard and a 4 yard run. Junior Jared Beasley kicked the extra points, with injured junior Diego Miguel not suited up for the game.  Donaven has 11 rushing touchdowns for the season.  Senior Justin Yocum had a first quarter interception.  Senior Juan Flores also had an interception…and ran it into the end zone for the TD, and a Jacket 34-0 lead.  Senior Braxton Vickers found junior Case Kuykendall for a 33 yard touchdown reception, giving Braxton 27 TD passes for the season, and Case has 7 TD receptions thus far.  Braxton too, hit junior Quincy Prince for a 36 yard catch and run TD.  Giving Quincy 12 TD receptions, thus far.  Joseph Reed had a 20 yard pass reception.  And Jared is averaging 32.95 yards every time he catches a pass.  Guillermo Davilla continues his outstanding play at nose guard, disrupting all that gets in his way.  The All-District team is going to be crowded, as senior Jacob Cruz and Cade Ligon are also having strong strong seasons in the defensive line positions.  Seniors Ryan Warner, Logan Duggar, Quentin Franklin, and Aaron Inge are having really strong seasons.  All should get recognized.  Aaron Brown and Edgardo Resendiz  have been outstanding.  Junior middle linebacker Mason Baker is the man.  Having a great year.

The Jackets secondary has been tremendous.  Reed, junior Luke Keller, and Randall Murray have been the best in years.  Yocum is irreplacable.  And have said this too…senior safety Aaron Brown is best safety Llano has had in a decade.  But …what have you done lately???  Devine will be running the football, in a form of the slot t offense.  These secondary folks will be playing the run plus not letting anyone get behind them.  Their play is key to winning Friday night.  I know this strong senior class as no intentions of this being the final game.  Beating District Champion Devine will be no easy task…but Llano can win.  Llano should win.  Let’s all make the game.  And New Braunfuls has many great places to eat!!

Other things:   Llano is host to the Thorndale and Center Point playoff game Friday night at Jacket Stadium.  Also:

Something has been found:  Head Llano football Coach Jim Moore in 1957 kept a log on each football game.  LLano finished that season 8-2.  The Jacket backfield had four  Division 1 players. All played Division 1 football.  I hope to have all that information written up by Wednesday for you to enjoy.  The original log book was discovered by “Ms. Do Everything” by Gena Schuessler…and soon it will be on display in the Hall of Fame Museum in the O’Henry Building.
