  1. Zach Vassar says:

Thanks for all that you have done for Llano football. Every community has something to it that helps make it unique. It’s awfully hard to find people as commited to their towns football as you are. Reading through everything makes me proud to say I am a Yellow Jacket. Currently I coach in Corsicana. The tradition here is also very good. Had it not been for the great experience I got in Llano, I wouldn’t be doing what I love to do today. Believe it or not, one of the biggest things I remember about HS football was how we all rushed to the store to get our “play to win” articles on our way to Saturday morning film.

    Thanks again,

    Zach Vassar

  2. Jay Robertson says:

Hello Mike, always love reading “Play To Win” and have for years…you provide quite a service to the community…there is one correction that should be made though…at the top under “Most Team Points Scored in a Single Game”…#3. Was ——-1972, under Marvin Sanders…not 1982. “The Old BBD” , as Larry Sawyer, Cary Otto, Joe Freeman, Jimmy Hoerster, Billy Roy Talley, James Lebow, Joe Lockhart, Jim Pope, as well as Juniors Howard Barnes, Hilton Rabb, Taylor Virdell, Tracy Kaspar, Larry Otto, Bill Edwards, and others could attest to.Thanks, Jay Robertson, Class of “73

  3. Russell Dixon says:

Jay is right becuase i play for Leander in 1982 we did not play Llano any year i played for Leander 1981 and 1982

  4. HEY WE NEED NEXT YEAR FOOTBALL BASKETBALL BASEBALL SOFTBALL AND TRACK AND GOLF GUY D FREEMAN

  5. Art Dlugach says:

Loved all of this…I would add Lance Dickey’s 97-yard TD run from scrimmage against Devine in 2007 (Alamodome) as longest–I think–in playoff history. Also, first game ever indoors, first playoff game indoors, first win indoors. Art Dlugach

  6. Desiree Fry says:

  9. Logan Duggar says:

Love the stats and records. Enjoy looking through them all. I was just wondering if you are gonna add Field Goal blocked return yards/touchdowns.

    • Mike Virdell says:

Great idea Logan….will put in in the mix….this will take alot of research…but we do know where to start!!! I remember several others, but you will be the first…again may take some time to fill in with others, going back into the 1990s…when Llano beat Brady 6-3 on a scoop fumble to win…thanks for all you did this season, you had a great season…special effort..always the best to you…mikel

  10. Charley Bates says:

Need some more information on fumble returns, just saying. 1997 might be a good place to check! Just throwing a random year out there by the way…….

  11. Brian Edwards says:

Not to nitpick but I was the one who threw the 4th longest TD to Michael White vs Burnet in 2001. Thanks for keeping up with all this. It’s fun to compare & see how the game has changed!

  12. Cassie Ligon says:

    On Defense (work in progress😂)
Would be to add “most yards for a loss”
And most fumbles caused & recovered

  13. Just kidding Mike I had the best % for playoff field goals 1/1, 1989 against Clyde,,even though we lost,,thanks for all your support through out the years and having Tory for a friend and teammate, good memories!!

  14. Daniel Valentine says:

Hey Mike! This is so cool what you’ve done. Wow! So much work. Thanks you. I was looking at the punting section, and noticed my average but didn’t see from how many punts? Also, it would be neat to know what my longest punt was. Lastly, I see the defense is a work in progress. I’m pretty sure I had 7 sacks my senior year when I played defensive end. Take care and God bless.

Should do a llano hall of fame for the position they play on offense and defense greatest Qb , WR , OL , DB , Safety , etc lots of them are from 2020 I’ve heard this year

      • Mike Virdell says:

Thanks…I’ve thought alot about that, but at this time, a special greatest list would leave too many great and over achievers off the list…..so many played far above their abilities…still so far behind on defensive stats, but will keep it in mind
