Thanks for all that you have done for Llano football. Every community has something to it that helps make it unique. It’s awfully hard to find people as commited to their towns football as you are. Reading through everything makes me proud to say I am a Yellow Jacket. Currently I coach in Corsicana. The tradition here is also very good. Had it not been for the great experience I got in Llano, I wouldn’t be doing what I love to do today. Believe it or not, one of the biggest things I remember about HS football was how we all rushed to the store to get our “play to win” articles on our way to Saturday morning film.
Thanks again,
Zach Vassar
Hello Mike, always love reading “Play To Win” and have for years…you provide quite a service to the community…there is one correction that should be made though…at the top under “Most Team Points Scored in a Single Game”…#3. Was ——-1972, under Marvin Sanders…not 1982. “The Old BBD” , as Larry Sawyer, Cary Otto, Joe Freeman, Jimmy Hoerster, Billy Roy Talley, James Lebow, Joe Lockhart, Jim Pope, as well as Juniors Howard Barnes, Hilton Rabb, Taylor Virdell, Tracy Kaspar, Larry Otto, Bill Edwards, and others could attest to.Thanks, Jay Robertson, Class of “73
Jay is right becuase i play for Leander in 1982 we did not play Llano any year i played for Leander 1981 and 1982
HEY WE NEED NEXT YEAR FOOTBALL BASKETBALL BASEBALL SOFTBALL AND TRACK AND GOLF GUY D FREEMAN
Thanks ! Art D
Loved all of this…I would add Lance Dickey’s 97-yard TD run from scrimmage against Devine in 2007 (Alamodome) as longest–I think–in playoff history. Also, first game ever indoors, first playoff game indoors, first win indoors. Art Dlugach
Thanks so much for the time and energy out into this Mr. Cordell! Orange and black blood runs deep! Proud to be a Llano Yellowjacket!
Above comment meant to have read as:
Thanks so much for the time and energy put into this Mr. Virdell! Orange and black blood runs deep! Proud to be a Llano Yellowjacket!
Thanks so much !! I owe you one or more….Art
I do believe i had 9 interceptions in my career at Llano High school varsity 94-95 seasons. 94 season are hall of famers! Congrats to the class of 94! 10-0 DEAL THE PAIN!
Thanks Markus…Give me some time and I will go back into the old record book and check it out….I do not doubt it…you were a very fine defensive back on a very good team…thanks again
I love the records, and I’m glad to be reminded how high on the passing list Cade is. Looking forward to your columns. Art Thanks so much for you and Kay coming to the party. Great moment—GLAD it’s over !! But don’t tell my kids that!
I’m ready to begin…will do my first column today…see you soon
Thank you Mike! Heck of a job covering Llano football over the years. We all appreciate it! 1994 Hall of Fame! Was a pivital year in my life and many others.
Marcus…when the Jacket season is over, I will go and confirm with a little research your interceptions for career…thanks for sending me the info…I will for sure get it confirmed and entered…mikel
Mike, I have Cade with 19 TD passes, tying school record for one season–35 for career is a record alone. Sound right? Thanks, Art…
I’ve looked at all I have…only find 5…send me any backup/ support/ newspaper articles…anything youcan find please forward
Love the stats and records. Enjoy looking through them all. I was just wondering if you are gonna add Field Goal blocked return yards/touchdowns.
Great idea Logan….will put in in the mix….this will take alot of research…but we do know where to start!!! I remember several others, but you will be the first…again may take some time to fill in with others, going back into the 1990s…when Llano beat Brady 6-3 on a scoop fumble to win…thanks for all you did this season, you had a great season…special effort..always the best to you…mikel
Need some more information on fumble returns, just saying. 1997 might be a good place to check! Just throwing a random year out there by the way…….
I will certainly look in 1997…just added one from two years ago…thanks for the help
Not to nitpick but I was the one who threw the 4th longest TD to Michael White vs Burnet in 2001. Thanks for keeping up with all this. It’s fun to compare & see how the game has changed!
Goodness Yes…great to hear from you…I will get it corrected
On Defense (work in progress😂)
Would be to add “most yards for a loss”
And most fumbles caused & recovered
Will work on all those after season…few defensive records kept..thanks
Just kidding Mike I had the best % for playoff field goals 1/1, 1989 against Clyde,,even though we lost,,thanks for all your support through out the years and having Tory for a friend and teammate, good memories!!
Thanks James…I may still find a spot for that in the record book…best to you
Hey Mike! This is so cool what you’ve done. Wow! So much work. Thanks you. I was looking at the punting section, and noticed my average but didn’t see from how many punts? Also, it would be neat to know what my longest punt was. Lastly, I see the defense is a work in progress. I’m pretty sure I had 7 sacks my senior year when I played defensive end. Take care and God bless.
Should do a llano hall of fame for the position they play on offense and defense greatest Qb , WR , OL , DB , Safety , etc lots of them are from 2020 I’ve heard this year
Thanks…I’ve thought alot about that, but at this time, a special greatest list would leave too many great and over achievers off the list…..so many played far above their abilities…still so far behind on defensive stats, but will keep it in mind
